Kaskazi is named after the warm wind that blows through Zanzibar. It is also the name we gave to this place — because the feeling is the same. Warm, easy, and exactly right.
The hotel sits on a cliff on Zanzibar’s southeast coast, in the village of Jambiani. 16 apartment suites, 2 superior suites with private pools and ocean views, and 14 double rooms — all designed for that moment when you walk in and think: yes, this is it.
The ocean is always close. From the pool, from the restaurant, from the rooftop bar at golden hour. The staff are warm without being stiff. The food is fresh, local, and genuinely good. And the two superior suites with private pools have the kind of view you will not get tired of.
This is not a designer hotel. It is not a resort. It is the place your coolest friend would take you if they lived in Zanzibar.
32 rooms, each one warm, considered, and designed for good rest. The suites have space to spread out. The doubles have everything you need and nothing you don’t. And the two superior suites with private pools and ocean views are exactly as good as they sound.
The chef changes the menu based on what the fishermen bring in and what is growing in the garden. Breakfast is long and unhurried. Lunch is fresh, light, and made to order. Dinner is the kind of meal you talk about for months — local spice, fresh catch, and a view that makes everything taste better.
Breakfast — Buffet spread, fresh fruit, eggs however you like them. Take your time.
Lunch — À la carte. Fresh, seasonal, made for you.
Dinner — The main event. Themed buffets with flavours from Zanzibar and beyond.
The Rooftop Bar is the one everyone talks about. The view at golden hour, a cocktail you did not plan but definitely needed, and the feeling that this is exactly where you are supposed to be. The Main Bar keeps things easy by the pool. The Garden Bar is for when you want a quiet drink and the sound of the breeze.
Kaskazi sits on a cliff, and the ocean is part of everything here. At low to mid tide, you can swim in the Indian Ocean right off the beach below. At low tide, the water pulls back and the sandbar stretches out for what feels like a kilometre — perfect for long walks with no one else around. The cliffside beachfront has some of the best views on this coast. Bring a towel, find a spot on the rocks, and just take it in.
Back at the hotel, the ocean-facing pool is where most people end up spending half the day. Loungers, shade, and the restaurant and bar right beside it. Pool towels are provided. Nobody is in a hurry.
Kaskazi Rituals is our spa programme — a menu of treatments and rituals designed to work with the rhythm of your stay. Deep-tissue massage after a day of exploring, a facial using local ingredients, or a full ritual that takes its time. Book one or build a sequence across your stay.
Yoga classes are available on request — whether it is a morning flow to start the day or something slower in the evening. The gym is well-equipped for a proper session when you need one — weights, cardio, and a view that makes it easier to show up.
You do not need to plan any of this in advance. Just tell us how you want to feel and we will point you in the right direction.
Jambiani itself is worth exploring — the seaweed farms at low tide, the fishing boats coming in, the village rhythm. But if you want to go further, we will help. Stone Town for the history and the food. The mangrove forests and sandbars along the coast. Spice tours, snorkelling trips, and sunset dhow sails. And if you are thinking about combining Zanzibar with mainland Tanzania — a safari in the Serengeti or Ngorongoro, a night under Kilimanjaro — we can help arrange that too. Ask us. We know the best people.
